By Jonathan Tolbert
The date is Wednesday, October 31st, from 6–8 p.m. Events will include supper, inflatables, carnival games, hayride, fireworks, candy, prizes, non-scary costumes, and fellowship for the whole family.
Be a part of it! Bags of individually wrapped candy donations can be placed in the box in the education wing. The Children and Recreation Committee will be approaching some of you to let you know how you can participate. Volunteers to man carnival games are needed; please see Amy Tolbert. Listen for an announcement today for more details. Take a few flyers from the foyer to put up around your side of town or to pass out to neighbors and friends.

Operation Christmas Child

Can you believe it folks? The holidays are creeping up on us. It’s time to wrap that shoe box you have been saving and get it filled for that special boy or girl somewhere in the world. You may have already received information in the mail, and for those who haven’t, we have ordered pamphlets and will give them out as soon as they arrive. We will be collecting shoe boxes from now until November 12. Choose a boy or girl, ages 2–4, 5–9, or 10–14, and build your box with the following gift ideas:

  • School supplies: pens, pencils and sharpener, crayons or markers, stamps and ink pad sets, writing pads or paper, solar calculators, coloring and picture books.
  • Toys: small cars, balls, dolls, stuffed animals, kazoos, harmonicas, yo-yos, jump ropes, small Etch A Sketch, toys that light up or make noise (with extra batteries), Slinky.
  • Hygiene items: toothbrush, toothpaste, mild bar soap (in a plastic bag), comb, washcloth.
  • Other: hard candy and lollipops (please double bag all candy), mints, gum, T-shirts, socks, ball caps, sunglasses, hair clips, toy jewelry, watches, flashlights (with extra batteries).
  • A personal note: In a separate envelope, you may enclose a note to the child and a photo of yourself or your family. (If you include your name and address, the child may write back.)
  • Do not include: used or damaged items; war-related items such as toy guns, knives or military figures; chocolate or food; out-of-date candy; liquids or lotions; medications or vitamins; breakable items such as snowglobes or glass containers; aerosol cans.
